How to use Product Design Agent to Design New Products on Caimera

Got an idea for a new piece but don't have a sketch yet? The Product Design Agent (accessed through Design with Caimera) is your AI design partner. Chat with it about what you want to create, and it will sketch, color, and refine the design with you in real time. No design software or technical skill is needed—just a clear idea of your vision.

This guide walks you through designing a piece from a blank canvas to a final downloadable file, using an oversized button-front shirt as an example.

Everything You Can Do with the Product Design Agent
  • Design from scratch by describing what you want in plain language — garment type, silhouette, details, and vibe.
  • Sketch from a moodboard by dropping in reference or inspiration images instead of typing a full brief.
  • Design a full 2D sketch collection and get one sketch per piece.
  • Try new colorways on any sketch without redrawing it from scratch.

💡 Tip: Chatting with the agent is free — credits are only used when an image is actually generated.

How to Design a New Product

Step 1: Open the Product Design Agent from your Caimera home screen, click into the Product Design Agent card under the Design section.

Step 1:Open the Product Design Agent

Step 2: Choose how you want to start. The Design with Caimera panel opens with three ways to kick things off: Render a 3D Concept, Sketch from a Moodboard, or Design a 2D Sketch Collection. Pick the option that matches what you're after, or just start typing your brief directly into the chat box at the bottom.

Step 2: Choose how you want to start by adding a new prompt or select from a preset

Step 3: Describe your design and tell the agent what you're designing in your own words — for example, "Let's design a new collection of colored 2D sketches. Ask me what I'm designing and the vibe I'm after, then give me one sketch per piece." The agent will follow up with a few quick questions to nail down the details.

Step 3: Describe your design

Step 4: Answer the quick brief questions. The agent asks what kind of collection you're designing (apparel, footwear, bags, accessories, or something else) — just select an option and hit Submit.

Next, describe the piece itself — how many, and what they are.

Finally, pick the overall vibe (luxury editorial, streetwear casual, minimalist clean, playful bold, or your own).

💡 Tip: You can always type "Something else" instead of picking a listed option if none of them quite fit.

Step 4: Approve options shared by the agent

Step 5: Review your sketch Based on your answers, the agent writes out its design direction and generates a sketch. Once it's ready, choose what happens next — add a back view, try another colorway, add more pieces, or mark it as done.

Step 5: Review your sketch and Designs

Step 6: Want to see the same design in a different color? Select Try another colorway, and the agent will offer a few options while keeping the same shape and construction.

Step 6: Select design direction

Step 7: Try another colorway

Step 7: Open your design in the Editor Happy with a version? Hover over it and click Open in Editor to fine-tune it further.

Step 8: Open in Editor to fine-tune your Image

After generation, you can refine your image without starting over.

Text-Based Editing

Inside the Editor, use the Edit Image box at the bottom to describe any change — sleeve length, trims, colors, and more — then click EDIT to apply it. Your past versions are saved on the right under History, so you can always go back a step.

Use text‑based edits for quick global changes. For example: “Make the sleeves 3/4th length.”

Text-Based Editing

Draw & Edit Tool

Use Draw & Edit when you need to update a specific region.

Click the pencil (scribble) icon to circle the area you want to change, then either upload a reference image or add a prompt and click Edit. Every edit creates a new layer, so you can toggle between variations or revert to the original base image at any time. Watch step-by-step tutorial for the feature here.

Download

When your design is complete:

Click Download and choose your format: PNG, JPEG, TIFF or SVG, whether to remove the background, and your preferred Detail Level. For a full breakdown of supported formats and recommended settings, see this article here.

And that's it — your design is ready to use in your line sheets, tech packs, or wherever it needs to go next!

💡 Tip: Need a higher-resolution version for production? Use the Upscale option in the left toolbar to upscale your sketch up to 14K. Here's how you can Upscale your images.

More Ways to Use the Product Design Agent

The shirt example above is just one path. Once you're comfortable with the basics, here are a few other things the agent can do for you.

Turn a moodboard into repeat prints

Drop in a moodboard image and ask the agent to pull directions from it — it can generate multiple seamless, production-ready repeat prints, each capturing a different element of the board (color, motif, scale).

Build a colorway set grounded in your brand

The agent can pull from your brand guidelines to build a set of on-brand colorways for a piece, so every palette it suggests already fits your brand's DNA.

Design a capsule from one moodboard — no product needed

You don't need to start with a product at all. Attach a moodboard and ask for a few coordinated sketches, and the agent will design new pieces — apparel, bags, accessories — that all share the palette, materials, and mood of the board.

Build a trend-led capsule collection

Point the agent at a reference or trend image and ask it to build out a full capsule — it can pull 2–3 coordinated prints from the reference and design a jacket, skirt, or shirt around them, planning out exactly which print goes where before it sketches a thing.

FAQs

  1. Does chatting with the agent use up credits?

No, chatting is free. Credits are only used when an image is actually generated, so feel free to go back and forth on the brief before generating anything.

  1. Do I have to start from scratch every time?

No. You can start a brand-new design, sketch from a moodboard, build on a product you've already selected in your workspace, or ask for a trend-led collection or colorway set, the starting options you see depend on what you choose to work from.

  1. Can I go back to a previous design session?

Yes. Click the history icon at the top of the Design with Caimera panel to see your Chat History, organized by day, and jump back into any past conversation.

  1. What if I don't like the direction the agent takes?

Just tell it in the chat, you can ask for a different vibe, a different colorway, or push back on any part of the design at any point. You can also use "Something else" instead of picking a suggested option if none of them fit.

  1. What file formats can I download my design in?

PNG, JPEG, TIFF, or SVG. SVG downloads keep each color as a separate, selectable layer, which is handy if you need to hand a file off to Illustrator for further edits.

  1. Do I need to upscale before I download?

No, upscaling is optional. Use it in the Editor when you need a higher-resolution version — for example, for production or print — but you can download at the original resolution too.

  1. Can I add more pieces to a collection after the first sketch?

Yes, when the agent asks "What's next for this piece?", choose Add more pieces to collection and it will keep building out the set alongside what you already have.
