Recolor: Change Colors and Materials Instantly

Recolor: Change Colors and Materials Instantly

Need the same product in five different colorways without reshooting a single item? The Recolor tool lets you take one product photo and instantly generate new color and material variations — perfect for building out a full colorway range for your catalog, marketing, or sell sheets.

You can recolor with pixel-perfect precision on one area at a time, or group multiple parts together and generate an entire colorway range in a single click.

Before you start

Recolor gives you two ways of working, and you'll choose one after uploading your image:

  • AI Recolor — Group the product's parts, give each group a color or a material, and generate a full colorway range in one go. Best when you want several finished colorways fast.
  • Photoshop Recolor — An exact color shift on a masked area, pixel-faithful, one color at a time. Best when you need precise control over a single area.

Both modes work on the same uploaded image, so you can always switch between them if you change your mind partway through.

Step 1: Open the Recolor tool from your dashboard, go to the Ecommerce section and click the Recolor card.

Step 1: Open the Recolor tool

Step 2: Add your product image; upload your product photo, or drag and drop it into the panel. You can also paste an image or pull one from your Library.

Step 2: Add your Image on Recolor Tool

Step 3: Choose your recolor mode. Once your image is uploaded, pick AI Recolor or Photoshop Recolor at the top of the panel, depending on whether you want a full colorway range or a precise single-color edit.

Step 3: Select your Recolor Mode

Step 4: Select the area to recolor. Choose a labeled area — Fabric, Hood, Sleeves, Pockets, Waistband, Cuffs, Logo — or turn on Manual mask to draw your own. Right-click a chip to protect that area from the mask (it turns red). Use Refining Mask Edges to clean up the selection.

Step 4: Photoshop Recolor

Step 5: Pick your color. Use the color picker or enter a HEX, RGB, or HSL value by clicking the arrow next to the color field.

Once selected, click Generate to create your recolored image.

Step 5: Pick your color.

Step 4: Build your colorway groups. Drag parts (Fabric, Hood, Sleeves, Pockets, Waistband, Cuffs, Patches) into a group so they all take the same color or material. Add a New Group for each additional area, and use + to add another colorway, or Remix to auto-generate palette variations.

Step 4: Build your colorway groups.

Step 5: Assign a color or material to each group.

  • Color: Choose a swatch or enter a HEX, RGB, or HSL value.
  • Material: Upload an image reference, such as a fabric texture or print, to apply it to the selected area.
  • Create multiple colorways: Click the + icon next to Colorway to add multiple color and material selections. This lets you generate colorways, swatches, and material swaps in bulk.

Step 5: Assign a color or material to each group

Step 6: Choose your output resolution (1K or 2K) and click Generate. Your new colorway(s) will appear in the canvas and in your History panel on the right as they're created.

Step 6: Choose your output resolution (1K or 2K) and click Generate

Edit Your Generated Image

After generation, you can refine your image without starting over.

Text-Based Editing
Describe the change you want in plain text. For example: "remove logo."

Draw & Edit Tool
Click the pencil (scribble) icon to circle or draw on the area you want to change. Then either upload a reference image or type a description (e.g., "add a bow near the hood") and click Edit.

Layers Panel
Every edit creates a new layer. You can toggle between variations or revert to the original base image at any time. Click the Compare icon in the toolbar to view two versions side by side.

FAQs

  1. What's the difference between AI Recolor and Photoshop Recolor?

AI Recolor groups parts of the product and generates a full colorway range in one go — ideal for producing multiple finished variants quickly. Photoshop Recolor makes an exact, pixel-faithful color change to one masked area at a time, giving you tighter control over a single edit.

  1. Can I recolor more than one part at once?

Yes. In AI Recolor, drag as many parts as you like into a single group — they'll all receive the same color or material. You can also create multiple groups to recolor different areas differently in the same generation.

  1. Can I apply a material instead of a flat color?

Yes. In AI Recolor, switch to the Material tab on any group and upload a fabric or texture reference instead of picking a color.

  1. Will Recolor affect the logo, print, or texture detail on my product?

No. Recolor is designed to preserve product detail — logos, prints, and texture stay intact while only the selected area's color or material changes. In Photoshop Recolor, you can also right-click any area chip to explicitly protect it from the mask.

  1. What resolution should I generate at?

Start with 1K for quick iterations. Once you're happy with a colorway, switch to 2K, or use the Upscale tool afterward to boost an existing generation to a higher resolution.

  1. How do I compare my new colorway to the original?

Click the Compare icon in the left-hand toolbar on any generated image to view the before and after side by side.

  1. What file formats can I export to?

You can download as PNG or JPEG, with adjustable quality, an optional AI-generated disclosure, background removal, and embedded image metadata.
