How to Use Make Repeat to Create Seamless Repeat Print Patterns
Make Repeat turns a single uploaded print image into a seamless, tileable repeat. Simply upload your source artwork, set how closely the result should follow it, and click Generate. This ensures artwork that was never built to tile can still be used as an all-over print.
What is Make Repeat?
Make Repeat is a tab inside Print Designer. It takes a single flat print image and rebuilds it so the edges meet cleanly, producing a repeat that you can tile across a garment or send to production.
🔧 Perfect for
- Turning a one-off graphic into an all-over print
- Fixing artwork with visible seams at the tile edges
- Making a cropped or scanned print usable as a repeat
- Cleaning up the tiling on a swatch you extracted from a photo
Input Image Best Practices
To get the cleanest, most accurate repeat, ensure your source artwork meets these guidelines:
- Clean and Well-Lit: Ensure your image is well-lit and the pattern is clearly visible for the AI to interpret.
- Avoid Wrinkles & Folds: If your fabric has shadows, wrinkles, or uneven lighting, the AI may reproduce them in the repeating pattern.
- Use Complete, Continuous Patterns: Avoid cropped images where the core pattern is cut off or only partially visible.
- High Resolution: Use high-resolution images so that colors and intricate details are transformed accurately across the repeat. Lower-resolution images tend to yield pixelated or blurry patterns.
- Vector Preferred: Whenever possible, use vectorized images or high-quality flat digital files.
Repeat Layout Types
Make Repeat currently generates a standard straight/block repeat. Advanced textile layouts (such as half-drop or brick repeats) are not natively generated in this step but can be configured when applying the tile in downstream layout software.
🛠️ Step-by-Step: How to Make a Print Repeat
Step 1: Navigate to the Change Tool tab within Print Designer and select Make Repeat.

Step 2: Upload your source print image.

Step 3: Adjust Adherence to control how closely the repeat follows the original artwork. 60% Print Adherence is the recommended default for most prints. Higher values may improve detail but can sometimes introduce visible seams, so feel free to adjust the setting based on your print.
Adherence | When to Use |
|---|---|
Higher | Stays closer to your source artwork. Best when the print is a specific design that you need to preserve exactly. |
Lower | Gives the AI more freedom to redraw motifs so the edges meet cleanly. Best for rough scans, crops, or artwork with awkward edges. |
Step 4: Click Generate.

Step 5: The generated image appears in your History.

Step 6: Use the Tile Layer Tool to preview the repeated print and check how it tiles before downloading. This helps you identify any seams and see how the print will look as a seamless pattern.

Here is a before-and-after example showing how the print should look when tiled using the Tile Layer Tool.

Still Seeing a Seam?
If you can spot a seam in the Tile Layer preview, lower the Adherence and generate again. Higher adherence protects your original artwork but leaves the AI less room to resolve the edges; lowering it trades a little fidelity for a cleaner tile.
Refining & Modifying Prints:
After generation, you can refine your image without starting over.
Text-Based Editing
Use text‑based edits for quick global changes. For example: “Change the background color to blue.”

Draw & Edit Tool
Use Draw & Edit when you need to update a specific region.
Click the pencil (scribble) icon to circle the area you want to change, then either upload a reference image or type a description (e.g., “remove the blue lead from the marked area”) and click Edit. Every edit creates a new layer, so you can toggle between variations or revert to the original base image at any time.

Upscale and Download
Images are generated at 2K resolution for fast rendering. When your design is complete:
- Click the Upscale button in the left panel.
- Select your preferred upscaling option. With the Crystal Upscaler, you can upscale images to resolutions of up to 14K.

- Once the image is upscaled, click Download to save the high-resolution image. Here, you can choose from multiple options depending on your required file format and level of detail. What You Can Do With Your Seamless Pattern
Make Repeat swatches behave like any other print in Print Designer:
- Tile them with the Tile layer tool
- Apply them to a garment photo with Apply Print
- Export as PNG, JPEG, TIFF, SVG, or PSD — including 300 DPI TIFF files for print production and layered PSD files with one named layer per color for Photoshop workflows.
Frequently Asked Questions:
- What layout types does Make Repeat generate?
It currently generates a standard straight/block repeat.
- What is the recommended default setting for Adherence?
60% Print Adherence is the recommended starting default for most prints.
- When should I use a higher Adherence setting?
Use higher Adherence when you need to preserve the exact details of your original source artwork.
- When should I use a lower Adherence setting?
Use lower Adherence to give the AI more freedom to fix bad edges and eliminate visible seams.
- How do I preview the pattern to check for visible seams?
Use the Tile Layer Tool after generating to preview how the swatch tiles before downloading.
- What should I do if a seam is still visible in the preview?
Lower the Adherence setting and generate the pattern again to give the AI more room to clean the edges.
