How to expand an image on the Editorial Images (Fluid) Tool

Image expansion on Caimera uses AI to extend the borders of an image—adding new visual content that blends naturally with the original. This is especially useful when:

  • You need to fit a specific aspect ratio
  • You want to add breathing room around a subject
  • You’re repurposing an image for banners, thumbnails, or product modules

This article will guide you through the process of expanding an image.

Caimera's Expand Tool can expand an image up to 200 pixels on each side.

🛠️ Step-by-Step: How to Expand an AI-Generated Image

Step 1: Generate Your Base Image

Start with an image that’s close to your target dimensions. For example:

This minimizes how much expansion is needed later.

Step 2: Navigate and Click on the Expand tool.

Step 3: Increase the size of the image you want to expand by in pixels on the sides you want to expand it on. The maximum limit is 200 pixels.

Increase the size of the image by entering the value in pixels

You can expand an image on all 4 sides or on 1 side or 2 sides depending on your requirement.

  • Total vertical expansion needed: 300 − 242 = 58 px
  • Since the width is already correct (970 px), you don’t need to pad on the left or right sides. You’ll want to split the vertical padding evenly:

Top: Add 29 px

Bottom: Add 29 px

Left: 0 px

Right: 0 px

Enter the expansion value in pixels

Step 4: The expanded image is now available under the 'Layers' on the right side.

Find the expanded layer in the layers tab

Step 5: Upscale the image for high resolution output. Click 'Apply'.
