# How to Create a Complete Tech Pack from a Single Product Image

The **Tech Pack tool** generates a full, factory-ready tech pack from one product image. You name your tech pack, pick your own template, and upload an image. Caimera fills in the construction details, fit description, materials, sample measurements and full size grading. Everything it produces is editable, and you can download the finished pack as a PDF or AI file.

**What is the Tech Pack tool?**

Tech packing typically takes three to five hours per style, most of it repetitive typing. The Tech Pack tool reads a single product photo, identifies the construction, matches materials against your library, and populates your existing tech pack format, turning hours of documentation into a scan-and-correct review.

The tool adapts to **your** template rather than imposing a fixed format, so the output slots into your existing workflow and your factory's expectations.

###### 🔧 Perfect For

* Producing factory-ready tech packs without manual typing
* Generating sample measurements and full size grading from an image
* Writing detailed product and construction descriptions for overseas factories
* Documenting a style with colourways and a 2D technical sketch in one place
* Closing the loop between design and production inside Caimera

**Before You Start: Setting Up Your Tech Pack Library**

There are three components to set up before generating your first tech pack. Each one is what the AI draws on when it fills your pack in.

**1. Materials:** Upload your material library so the tool can identify and name the right fabrics and trims. Companies can also connect their **PLM software** to Caimera to import their materials automatically.

You can also add materials to your library manually by clicking the **Add Material** button in the top-right. This allows you to upload the material’s **description, material type, and swatch**, so you can build and maintain your material reference library directly within Caimera.

When the generator detects a fabric or trim in your image, it searches this library and pulls in the closest match by name — for example, a champagne satin and a gold-tone dome button.

**2. Measurements & Fit:** Upload your **POM (point of measure) sheets** under **Tech Packs → Measurements & Fit** so generated measurements follow your house sizing rather than a generic set.

* **Upload a spreadsheet (.xlsx) directly.** Every value is read straight from the cells and never retyped, with fractions kept exactly as Excel shows them. Multi-sheet workbooks work too — side-by-side tables, per-style mini-charts and illustration images are all understood. PDF exports and photos of the sheets still work when a spreadsheet isn't available.
* **All chart types are supported** — grading charts, per-style sample specs, size charts and fit-model measurements, for apparel, footwear, bags and accessories.
* **You review every chart cell-by-cell before anything is saved.** Each chart appears on its own tab, and you can save them all at once or one at a time, with a toggle to leave any chart out. The numbers a factory sees are yours.
* **Saved charts stay editable.** Open any chart from the library to correct values, rename sizes, add or remove rows, and update its details at any time.
* **Grading charts keep their meaning.** Deltas from your base size are used as grade increments, never mistaken for finished measurements.

When you build a tech pack, the assistant checks your charts first and fills the measurement spec with the matching real values and tolerances. It only estimates — marked **"est."** — when no chart matches.

**3. Templates:** Tech-pack templates can be found under **Tech Packs → Templates**.

Custom Tech Pack Templates are currently available on the [Pro and Enterprise plans](https://www.caimera.ai/pricing) only.

* You can share your existing **PDF, page images, or Excel workbook (.xlsx)** with us, and our team will review and set it up as a reusable template in the app.
* **Multi-tab Excel workbooks are supported**, with each tab converted into its own template page in the same order.
* The template can retain **tables, section structure, styling, merged cells, formula results, fractions, and long instruction text** as provided in the original file.
* **Product-specific details such as names, dates, and product values can be converted into reusable placeholders** where applicable.
* Areas containing sketches or photos can be set up as **fillable image slots** for the relevant product artwork.

###### 📸 Input Image Best Practices

To get the most accurate and detailed results from the Tech Pack tool, keep the following image guidelines in mind:
* **Quality & Resolution:** Use clear, atleast 2k high-resolution images with good lighting to ensure the AI can accurately detect construction details, fabrics, and trims.
* **Format Flexibility:** The tool is versatile, you can upload either a raw design sketch or a photograph of a finished product.
**Supported formats:** PNG, JPG, WEBP, HEIC/HEIF, PDF, AI, DXF, SVG

###### 🛠️ Step-by-Step: How to Create a Tech Pack

**Step 1:** From the Caimera homepage, click **Tech Pack** at the bottom of the Caimera homepage under **Design**. You'll also find it in the left panel of the editor.

![Step 1: Navigate to Tech Pack Tool](https://storage.crisp.chat/users/helpdesk/website/-/c/8/b/f/c8bf533b39f9b00/image_1axkeqa.png =600x283)

**Step 2:** Click **Create New Tech Pack** and give it a name.

![Step 2:How to Create New Tech Pack](https://storage.crisp.chat/users/helpdesk/website/-/c/8/b/f/c8bf533b39f9b00/image_19o5hqz.png =600x282)

**Step 3:** Select your **template** and upload your product image. A **single image of the product** is all the tool needs to start. (Optional) You can also add supporting images, a back view, or existing colourways.

**Creating several tech packs at once:** Each product gets its own tab in the New tech pack window, with its own template, product image, reference images, and details such as brand, season and size range. Adding a tab copies the current tab's settings, so you only change what differs.

**Step 4:** Click **Create**.

![Step 3: How to Create a Tech-Pack in Caimera](https://storage.crisp.chat/users/helpdesk/website/-/c/8/b/f/c8bf533b39f9b00/image_b1mftr.png =600x282)

**Step 5:** Your tech pack opens blank at first — your template, with no fit description, no fabric name and no measurements. The generator then fills it in, detecting materials and matching them against your material library. This takes a few minutes.

Every pack builds on its own, start to finish, filling every page in one go: header, materials, components, construction, measurements and image slots. Instead of stopping to ask, the assistant estimates unknown details or marks them **"TBC"**, then asks about anything it still needs in a single set of questions at the end. Tick **Auto-generate missing images** to have flats and alternate views drawn from your product photo without approving each one.

You can close the page while packs build. Badges on the **Tech Packs** list show which packs are still building, which need your input, and which stopped and can be resumed.

**What the Tech Pack Generator Fills In**

| **Section** | **What You Get** |
| **Construction callouts** | Numbered points placed on the product image, each describing a construction detail — for example *halter neckline, back tie hook closure*, *plunging crossover V-neckline*, *gold-tone dome button side closure*, *asymmetric handkerchief hem*. All read from the image alone. |
| **Fit description** | A written fit summary, such as *relaxed through bodice, semi-fitted at waist, wrap, dropped asymmetric hem*. |
| **Materials** | Fabric and trim names matched from your material library, with the supporting product and trim detail written out. |
| **Sample measurements** | Filled from your saved measurement charts where one matches; otherwise estimated from image analysis and marked *est.* |
| **Size grading** | A full grade from your sample size across XS, S, M, L and XL, using your own grade increments where you've uploaded them. |
| **Colourways** | Generated on request — the tool calls Caimera's **recolour** tool and places the results into the pack. |
| **2D technical sketch** | Generated on request — the tool calls Caimera's **image-to-sketch** function and adds the flat sketch to the pack. |

The product description matters more than it might appear. Factories in many locations rely on written detail to interpret a style, and writing a fit description by hand can take fifteen minutes of thinking per style. The tool writes it for you.

###### Answering the assistant's questions

When the assistant needs a decision from you — open points after a fill, a missing detail, confirmation of an estimated measurement — it asks with a **question card** rather than a long message.

* One question at a time, answered with a tap. No typing needed.
* Yes/No decisions, single-choice and multi-choice questions, plus an **Other** option when you need your own words.
* Tap any answered row to change it before you send.
* Hit **Send** and all of your decisions are applied together in one go.

You can also **attach reference images** to any message in the tech pack chat — up to 10 per message. They stay with the conversation, so reopening it later brings every attached image back with it, and the assistant can look back at an earlier one when you ask.

**Editing Your Tech Pack**

Everything the generator produces is editable, the tech pack behaves like a PDF — you can click into and change.

* **Text** — Click any field and type. Correct a description, adjust the fit notes, or add a detail such as *add a belt*.
* **Measurements** — Click a value and type a new one. If you want the top slightly longer, change 24 to 26.
* **Images** — Click a colourway slot, choose **Upload File**, and add a colourway that isn't already in the pack.
* **Special instructions** — Sewing instructions, top-stitch notes and similar details can be typed in. If they're part of your uploaded template, the tool will try to populate them too.

**Adding Images to Your Tech Pack Directly**

You can place images into your tech pack yourself, without going through the assistant.

* **Fill an empty slot** — Click any empty image slot in the preview and either upload a file or pick from your Library's **Generations**, **References** and **Products**. **Shopify** and **Bynder** sources are available too.

* **Smart Crop** — If the image doesn't match the slot's shape, it's automatically cropped **to fit** the product, exactly **like** assistant-placed images.
* **Replace a placed image** — Click the image and hit **Replace** on its toolbar.
* Everything you place also lands in your reference **Library**, so it's one click away next time.

**Generating Missing Tech Pack Images**

If you don't have every image your tech pack calls for, the assistant can create the missing ones from your product photo.

| **Image** | **How to Ask** |
| **Colourways** | Tell the assistant which colours you want **by name**, PANTONE, or hex, and it renders each colourway from the product image, leaving construction, stitching and hardware untouched. |
| **Technical flats** | Ask for a black-line, CAD-style flat sketch derived from the product photo, ready to drop into a sketch slot. |
| **Other views** | Need a back view, side profile or detail render the photo doesn't show? Ask, and the assistant generates it from the product image **flagging which parts are inferred** so you can verify them. |

**You approve every image** unless you ticked **Auto-generate missing images** when creating the pack. Each generation shows an **Approve / Decline** card in the chat before anything is created, with its **credit cost shown on the card**, and the result appears in the chat for review before it's placed. Each image is charged at the mode and resolution it actually ran at, the same as an image edit.

**Choosing the image mode and resolution:** Tech pack images use Fast at 1K by default. Just ask in the chat, for example "use Max for this one" or "generate it in 2K", and the assistant keeps using that setting for the rest of the conversation. It can also step up on its own when an image needs more detail, such as small text, logos or an intricate print, and it tells you when it does. If your plan doesn't include a combination, the assistant tells you instead of charging you. Max renders at up to 2K.

**Real assets stay real.** Material swatches, fabric close-ups and brand labels are never generated. Those always come from your uploads or your materials catalogue.

![Approve/Decline card for a generated colourway](https://storage.crisp.chat/users/helpdesk/website/-/c/8/b/f/c8bf533b39f9b00/image\_1y3x2pp.png =600x283)

**Measurement Accuracy**

Where your own measurement charts cover the style, the spec is filled with your real values and tolerances — nothing is guessed. Where no chart matches, measurements are produced by image analysis and marked **"est."**, so you can always tell which numbers came from you and which were inferred.

Estimates are a strong starting point rather than a guarantee. AI isn't 100% accurate in any field, so the workflow assumes a human eye on the numbers — expect roughly one estimated measurement in ten to need adjusting.

In practice, scanning a populated tech pack and correcting a value is considerably faster than typing every measurement from scratch. Intent also matters: if you want a top to sit longer than the estimate, that's an edit rather than an error. Every measurement is editable.

**Downloading and Sharing**

Download your finished tech pack as a **PDF** or **AI** file by clicking the *Download* button in the top-right corner, then share it with your factory. A tech pack helps communicate a style between the buyer and factory and serves as documentation, so it’s designed to be easily exported and shared.

|| **Credits:** Creating and editing a tech pack is free. Downloading costs **50 credits per version**, charged once on the first download. Re-downloading the same version (in either format) is free; editing the pack creates a new version. Generated images (colourways, flats, other views) are charged separately at the image-edit rate when you approve them.

**The 2D sketch is an editable SVG.** When you download the technical drawing and open it in Illustrator, you get **editable strokes with closed shapes** — the sketch is a line, not a fill. That means you can apply prints and colours to the shapes, and add extra points to any line.

|| 💡 Pro Tip: Set up your materials, templates, and key fields first, then add complete references and review measurements and AI-inferred details before finalizing your tech pack.
