# Guide to Sketch-to-Image File Formats: Choosing the Right Output

# Caimera Guide: Choosing the Right File Format for Export

Bringing a design to life is all about the finishing touches. Once you’ve finalized your creations in Caimera, choosing the correct export format ensures a seamless transition to your e-commerce site, print house, or CAD software.

Our **Sketch-to-Image** and **Image-to-Sketch** tools are built specifically for design workflows, delivering your designs as clean garment mockups or product illustrations. Best of all, we ensure that everything you create in Caimera remains completely editable, giving you production-ready assets that adapt perfectly to the next phase of your design process.

###### Here are the file formats we support and how they can best facilitate your specific design and production use cases:

| File Format | What It Is | Best Used For... |
| PNG | Standard, high-quality raster image format. | General everyday use, digital lookbooks, and sharing quick previews online. |
| TIFF | Large, uncompressed file at 300 DPI. | High-end print production, physical lookbooks, or fabrics where absolute clarity is required. |
| SVG Vector | Fully editable vector lines and paths. | Bringing designs into Adobe Illustrator or CAD. It automatically organizes your work into clean layers for outlines, details, and stitching. |

###### Choosing your SVG vector style

SVG downloads from **Image to Sketch** offer two vector styles in the download options:

| Vector style | What you get | Best used for... |
| **Editable Strokes** (default) | Panels, details and stitching come through as selectable stroke paths. | Restyling, recolouring or reshaping the sketch in Illustrator. |
| **Filled Lines** | Every drawn line traced exactly as a filled shape. | The most faithful reproduction of the sketch, when accuracy matters more than editability. |

Either way, the exported SVG carries a proper stroke weight set at export time (so lines aren't hairline-thin when you open the file), dashed stitching exports as true dashed paths rather than flattening to solid strokes, and paths are grouped into **outline**, **detail** and **stitching** layers so you can select, recolour or hide them as a unit. Strokes are non-scaling, so lines keep the same on-screen weight when you resize the artwork in Illustrator.

###### A note on vector inputs

These tools accept vector files as **input** as well — there's no need to flatten to PNG first. Sketch-to-Image takes PDF, Adobe Illustrator (.ai), SVG and AutoCAD DXF alongside PNG/JPEG/WebP/HEIC, and reference and material pickers across the app accept the same formats. Files are rasterized to a 300 DPI PNG server-side before anything else touches them.

Multi-page PDFs fan out into one sketch card per page (capped at 20 pages), and each page is billed as its own generation. Reference and material pickers use page 1 only, so a swatch stays a single image.

###### Quick Recommendation
* **Exporting to design or sketch further?** Choose **SVG** with *Editable Strokes*.
* **Need the sketch reproduced exactly as drawn?** Choose **SVG** with *Filled Lines*.
* **Sending a catalog to a professional printing house?** Choose **TIFF**.
* **Just need to save, email, or upload a clear picture?** Choose **PNG**.
