# Guide to Print Designer File Formats: Choosing the Right Output

Transitioning a brilliant digital design into a physical textile requires more than just artistic vision, it demands the right technical file format. In textile and print manufacturing, using the wrong file type can lead to pixelated patterns, incorrect color separations, or artwork that your factory’s machinery simply cannot read.

To bridge the gap between design and physical fabric production, Caimera’s **Print Designer Tool** offers a robust suite of professional download configurations. Whether you need a quick digital preview, high-fidelity color splits for screen printing, or raw vector paths for a CAD workflow, choosing the correct export setting ensures your design retains its absolute clarity from screen to loom.

###### Supported File Formats

When you click the **Download** button, Caimera provides four core file formats. Selecting the right format depends heavily on your production method, editing needs, and manufacturing hardware.

| File Format | Output Configuration | Resolution / Structure | Best Used For... |
| PNG / JPEG | Standard Export | Standard / Compressed | Everyday reference, digital lookbooks, and sharing quick previews online. |
| TIFF | Production Export | 300 DPI / Uncompressed | High-end fabric print production and physical lookbooks requiring absolute clarity. |
| PSD | By Motif | 300 DPI / Layered by design elements | Moving, scaling, and rearranging individual artwork motifs directly in Photoshop without ruining the background. |
| | By Color (Low Detail) | 300 DPI / Layered by fewer broad colors | Rapid colorway swapping and simple traditional screen-print separations. |
| | By Color (Medium Detail) | 300 DPI / Layered by balanced color palette | Traditional screen printing that requires a balance between distinct color layers and fine pattern detail. |
| SVG Vector | Low Detail | Infinitely Scalable / Fewest anchor points & colors | Clean, lightweight vector lines. Easiest for flat vector recoloring and simple screen prints. |
| | Medium Detail | Infinitely Scalable / Balanced paths & palette | Standard CAD work, pattern mapping, and editing in Adobe Illustrator. |
| | High Detail (default) | Infinitely Scalable / Dense anchor points & maximum colors | High-fidelity vector production where complex pattern shading and intricate details must be preserved. |

###### About the SVG export

SVG downloads of prints and patterns are traced as smooth curves rather than stepped line segments, so edges stay crisp at any zoom level, matching what you'd expect from professional vector tools. Thin outlines and fine line work keep their original colour instead of washing out, and the colour palette stays clean with no muddy halo bands around edges — which makes the file easier to recolour in Illustrator or another vector editor.

All three detail levels benefit. **High is the default for vector downloads**, since it keeps the most shading detail on gradient-heavy artwork. PSD exports still use Medium, for a manageable layer count.

###### Placement prints export as editable shapes

Placement prints made in **Upload & Edit** and **Create from Scratch** export as SVGs whose connected shapes can be selected independently, preserving the original canvas size and background. This works for downloads to your device, Google Drive, and Bynder.

|| **Note:** Choose the **Graphic** prompt type for placement-print SVG exports. Sketch outputs keep their own dedicated sketch SVG export, and other upload and create prompt types offer raster downloads instead.

###### Removing the background from a print

The **Download Print** popup has a **Remove background** option. Use it to save artwork that arrived on a solid card as a transparent PNG, or as a transparent 300 DPI TIFF for print production.

###### Quick Recommendations: Which Format Do You Need?

* **Sending a layout proposal to a client or team?** Use **JPEG / PNG**. It's lightweight and opens instantly on any mobile device or computer.
* **Running digital sublimation or Direct-to-Garment (DTG) printing?** Use **TIFF**. The 300 DPI uncompressed layout ensures rich color depth and crisp edges.
* **Preparing screens for traditional Screen Printing (Flatbed or Rotary)?** Use **PSD (By Color)** to save hours of color separation prep work.
* **Need to manually scale, rotate, or shift elements of the layout?** Use **PSD (By Motif)** to drag individual components without breaking the background pattern.
* **Integrating into apparel CAD software or grading patterns for multiple sizes?** Use **SVG Vector** for infinite scaling capabilities.
* **Exporting a graphic tee or placement print to recolour in Illustrator?** Use **SVG Vector** with the **Graphic** prompt type, so each connected shape stays independently selectable.
